Data Science Intern

**Description -

Before applying, please note that, to be eligible for this position, you must be currently enrolled at a university in Spain, remain enrolled until the end of the internship, and be eligible to sign an internship agreement with your university. You must also be available to start the internship in February 2027 and continue participating in the program until June–July 2027.

HP's Applied AI& Automation team is looking for a Data Scientist Intern to help build and ship the applications and automation solutions that drive AI/ML adoption across HP's Commercial Organization. You'll combine hands-on engineering skills in Python and JavaScript with business thinking and a build-and-ship mindset to turn concrete business problems into working, usable software. You'll join a dynamic, highly skilled, and diverse global team that is pushing the innovation frontier in how HP uses AI and automation to solve its stakeholders' challenges.

The Applied AI & Automation team is responsible for coordinating all efforts to increase AI & Automation adoption across HP's Commercial Organization, providing RPA/AI/ML solutions to business use cases. Our key areas in scope are:

• Funnel management — coordinating the development of solutions from idea submission through to production, with the right technology and architecture (RPA/AI/ML).

• Community — upskilling people into Citizen Developers who can build solutions for team and personal productivity, and encouraging contribution and volunteering from these individuals.

If you're an engineer who likes to build, ships clean and maintainable code, and enjoys seeing your work adopted by real business users, you could be a great fit

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (What you'll do)

**

• Build end-to-end applications. Design, develop, and ship full-stack solutions — front-end and back-end — in Python and JavaScript that turn business problems into working tools.

• Front-end development. Build clean, intuitive web interfaces with modern JavaScript (ideally a framework such as React) that make solutions easy for business users to adopt.

• Back-end and APIs. Develop services, REST APIs, and data flows in Python, and integrate them with enterprise systems and data sources.

• Deploy and operate on Azure. Package, deploy, and maintain applications using Azure services and containerization (Docker, Azure Functions, AKS); monitor performance and resolve issues.

• Integrate AI capabilities. Wire existing GenAI/ML services into applications — for example, calling LLM APIs or connecting to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems the team maintains — at a working integration level.

• Collaborate cross-functionally. Partner with product owners, engineers, data and cloud experts, and RPA developers to deliver viable, sustainable solutions.

• Engage stakeholders. Work with business stakeholders to understand their needs, translate them into technical requirements, and deliver software that ties clearly to business outcomes.

• Own quality. Write tested, maintainable code; participate in code reviews and version control; and continuously improve solutions based on feedback and production results.

• Contribute to the community. Support and mentor citizen developers, share reusable components and patterns, and help foster a culture of building and continuous learning.

Must-have

• Education: currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

• Hands-on software development experience, including internships and academic or personal projects will be considered a plus.

• Python: solid foundation for back-end development, scripting, and system integration.

• JavaScript: comfortable building front-end interfaces with modern JavaScript, ideally with a framework such as React.

• Web fundamentals: HTML/CSS, REST APIs, and client–server basics.

• Version control: comfortable using Git / GitHub for version control - branching, commits, pull requests, and collaborating on shared code.

• Databases: basic SQL and experience working with data stores.

• Cloud: basic familiarity with Azure (or another major cloud provider).

• Proficiency in English is a must.

Nice to have (basic / awareness level)

• Basic exposure to GenAI and LLM concepts - prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and vector databases.

• Familiarity with AI and automation tooling – Automation Anywhere, n8n, Copilot Studio, CoWork.

• Basic awareness of ML and data science - common Python data libraries, and forecasting or recommender concepts.

• Exposure to Azure AI/ML services (Azure Machine Learning, Azure AI Search), Databricks, or PySpark.

• Containerization and orchestration (Docker, AKS).

• Awareness of RPA concepts and their business benefits.

Knowledge & skills

• Good understanding of digital industry trends (RPA, AI, ML) and their benefits.

• Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and presentation — and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

• Problem-solving skills and creative thinking to tackle complex technical challenges.

• Ability to work effectively in globally distributed virtual teams.

• Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Team player.

Experience our benefits:

• Paid internship within a global, technology driven company.

• Join an international work environment, with opportunities for learning, professional development, and networking across teams.

• Flexible working schedule, with options for part-time agreements (4 hours/day) or full-time (8 hours/day). The length of the internship ranges from 4 to 12 months.

• Access to our intern community, including career development workshops, learning sessions, and social activities that help you grow professionally and connect with other interns.

• Mentor assigned.

• Opportunity to join the HP Graduate Program following the placement.

• Lunch at reduced prices at our canteen.

• Access to our on‑site sports center, including:

  • Gym facilities
  • Squash, tennis, and basketball courts
  • 25+ organized sports and wellness activities, such as HIIT training, squash, basketball, and yoga

• Participation in the NextGen Employee Network, offering regular events and opportunities to connect with other early‑career professionals.

• On‑site medical services, including access to a doctor, nutrition support, physiotherapy, and general healthcare.

• Free printing access and hands‑on workshops using the latest HP technologies — from large‑format prints to 3D‑printed models.

• Easy commuting: Free parking available or excellent access via nearby train services.

• Women Network initiatives: Networking events, STEM promotion, business acumen talks, work–life balance sessions, and future‑skills development.
