Founded in 1873, King’s College London Students’ Union supports students throughout their time at King's College.
KCLSU is run by students elected by other students and is aimed to organize events, plan activities, and support students. The union is also responsible for a wide variety of clubs and societies, which include over 50 sports clubs and over 200 volunteer activities.
The clubs include athletics, basketball, cricket, football, Kung Fu, netball, rugby, tennis, triathlon, and Frisbee. In addition, a Fitness Centre is located on the Waterloo Campus. KCLSU is also responsible for two bars and a boutique. Between 1992 and 2013, it operated a nightclub called Tutu’s.
Along with these services, the union owns a tabloid newspaper, Roar! News, which is read by tens of thousands of people per month. Also, The KCLSU Student Media won the Student Media of the Year in 2014.
KCL’s libraries are spread across its campuses. The collection comprehends more than one million printed books and thousands of journals and electronic resources. King’s College also runs two museums: Gordon Museums of Pathology and the Museum of Life Sciences.
Housing at KCL
King’s College London owns eight halls of residence, all located in London, and eight intercollegiate halls of residence.
Students are eligible for KCL’s housing if they will be studying full time for the full academic year, and if their permanent address is not one of a certain list of London postcodes near the university.
Generally, 90 percent of applicants are accepted in the residences, notwithstanding the number of applications KCL receives is around 7,000 for 5,200 beds.

Ed Byrne, who was nominated Principal and President of KCL in 2014, has contributed to the growth of international students and to the increase and improvement of research and educational activities.
In 2013/14, King’s College London received the seventh-highest total income of any other British university, and it mostly came from donations directed to research.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), King’s research was given a GPA of 3.23. Based on this data, KCL was ranked at #6 for its research power, and at #7 for its GPA.
King's College's research in the Medical field is outstanding, for which it claims to be the largest medical center in Europe. With its four main teaching hospitals and 17 associated general hospitals, King’s College was one of the founders of the King’s Health Partners, one of the largest academic health sciences centers in Europe. KCL is also part of two of the twelve biomedical research centers established by the NHS in England.
