Position Summary

This position plays a critical role in the development and execution of BMS' WW & US medical strategy for a next-generation cardiac myosin inhibitor within the cardiovascular portfolio. The Medical Medical Product Lead (MPL) is a strategic leader with broad responsibilities across the Medical organization and a key leader of the cross-functional matrix, providing medical insights and interpretation of the evolving heart failure (HF) and cardiomyopathy landscape and translating emerging clinical and scientific data across the organization. The MPL has overall accountability to develop aligned medical strategies and execute core medical deliverables, including Integrated Evidence Plans, Scientific Narratives, and External Engagement and Advocacy plans as the lead of the cross-functional Asset/Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS) team.

The Director, MPL will provide strategic oversight for a new asset in heart failure and cardiomyopathy, initially focused on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and future life cycle management opportunities. This leader will direct and navigate complex issues across a broad cross-functional matrix to ensure optimal medical affairs strategy is developed and executed, including clear differentiation, evidence strategies that address monitoring burden and safety margin, and internal positioning across the broader myosin inhibitor franchise. This medical leader will report to the VP, Head of Cardiovascular Medical Affairs and work closely with CV global program leads in Clinical Development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the WW & US Medical Affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall BMS cardiovascular disease area strategy and the broader myosin inhibitor franchise.

• Act as the core global medical representative for WW & US program teams, providing strategic medical and scientific leadership across cross-functional forums.

• Lead the cross-functional Asset/Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS) team for, setting strategic direction and aligning medical deliverables across global markets.

• Shape and articulate a clear scientific differentiation narrative versus existing and emerging myosin inhibitors and modulators, including considerations related to pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, titration, monitoring burden, safety margin, and physician confidence.

• Partner across Worldwide Medical, Development, Regulatory, Commercial, HEOR, and Access to ensure the asset is positioned appropriately within the BMS cardiovascular portfolio and that internal sequencing and franchise strategy are clearly defined.

• Develop and execute global medical strategy, scientific narratives, and insight plans that reflect the evolving treatment landscape, including competitive dynamics and emerging standards of care. This will be put in the context of the broader CV BMS cardiomyopathy franchise, with expected collaborations across the other asset teams.

• Lead workstreams to identify evidence gaps and develop comprehensive Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs), including strategies to assess clinically meaningful differentiation such as usability in practice, monitoring requirements, and safety profile.

• Establish and oversee global medical data generation strategies; collaborate with Medical Evidence Generation (MEG) to guide Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) programs and other evidence-generation initiatives from concept through execution and dissemination.

• Deliver WW & US Medical Communications plans, including global publications strategy, scientific exchange, symposia, and data dissemination at key cardiovascular congresses.

• Engage with high-impact global external thought leaders to identify and translate key insights, including perspectives from early adopters and more conservative prescribers navigating cardiac imaging and monitoring requirements.

• Provide medical leadership to cross-functional teams on evolving regulatory expectations, evidence thresholds, and scientific questions relevant to next-generation cardiac myosin inhibition.

• Contribute to shaping competitive and access strategies by providing the global medical perspective on target product profile, value drivers, external stakeholder needs, and future life cycle expansion opportunities.

• Demonstrate sound judgment in selecting external organizations and investigators with appropriate expertise for research collaborations globally.

• Represent BMS scientific leadership at international scientific meetings, advisory boards, and with key external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

• Life sciences and/or healthcare professional training with an advanced degree is required (MD, PharmD, PhD).

• Minimum of 8+ years working in the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs, Medical Strategy, or Clinical Research, with experience in cardiovascular medicine preferred.

• Strong scientific knowledge of heart failure and cardiomyopathies, the evolving treatment landscape, and the principles of evidence generation in specialty cardiovascular disease is strongly preferred.

• Experience supporting asset strategy in early- to mid-stage development, including medical input into differentiation, evidence planning, and life cycle strategy, is preferred.

• The successful candidate should have strong analytical skills, strong scientific data and evidence interpretation and contextualization, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including clinical, commercialization, regulatory, HEOR, and Access.

• Excellent strategy development, critical thinking, decision making, and demonstrated ability to successfully create and implement both short- and long-range global medical plans.

• Proven track record of engaging global or international KOLs and cardiovascular thought leaders; demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-impact external scientific relationships.

• Experience leading global medical affairs programs and working effectively in a worldwide matrixed organization across multiple geographies and cultures.

• Ability to anticipate needs and assess scientific, business, and organizational risks in a complex global environment, including risks related to competitive positioning, internal franchise dynamics, and external adoption barriers.

• Highly organized and motivated and possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must be familiar with all phases of drug development, including clinical development, regulatory strategy, and life cycle management in a global context.

• Experience in launch planning or pre-launch strategy within cardiovascular or specialty therapeutic areas is preferred.

• HQ based position with international/domestic travel requirement approximately 20–30%.

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $207,490 - $251,433

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
