Personal Statement

Walking around campus at Bristol, there is one thing that is extremely hard to ignore – its vivacious students. That’s right. At Bristol, we are all passionate people who love what we do, and on applying to study here we definitely made sure we conveyed that in our Personal Statements. Many Universities will tell you that your Personal Statement counts for nothing and that they may not even read them. I recall going to open days and being told this over and over, and of course, this frustrated me. I wanted them to know who I was, and what I wanted to achieve with my education. Luckily, Bristol wants to know this too. Demonstrating how committed and passionate you are about what you want to study will really help you when it comes to getting into Bristol.

Work Experience

Having the relevant work experience for your subject might just be the difference between you getting accepted over another applicant. Work experience has the ability to impress and let them know how dedicated you are to what you want to do. Additionally, it signifies that you know what careers you are looking to pursue in the future, causing you to look like a driven and ambitious person. Bristol University often can have very few places, making it a very selective university. You’re going to want to try and impress them, and getting some work experience is definitely a good start.

Good Grades

It goes without saying that Bristol academics are incredibly challenging and you will need to be of a sufficient standard to be accepted. The university will want to make sure that you will thrive academically and hopefully obtain success in your future at Bristol. Getting good grades upon entry can ensure that you are the right type of student to be accepted to attend the university and that you will be able to cope with the high standards of academics. Of course, it could also be the difference between offering a place to you over another applicant.

Get involved in your community

Bristol looks for students who are going to make an impact and get involved. If you can prove that you are already the type of person who is active within your own community, you will appear as a great asset to be added to the community of Bristol university students. Bristol offers many opportunities that you can get involved in, including societies and university-run events. They want their students to make sure these societies remain thriving, and the key to that is enthusiastic students. Many people choose to volunteer and do some fantastic philanthropy work before applying. I, myself volunteered in a school.

Be a well-rounded individual

Whilst university values academics massively, being good at more than academics can be very appealing. They want to give offers to students who will offer the full package. The University boasts very good sporting facilities, as well as amazing opportunities with Drama and Music. These extra-curricular activities are key to Bristol's life, and they expect students to excel in these areas too. It is key to the university's reputation and if you want to attend Bristol, it is great to have many talents to offer on top of being exceptional academically. Olivia Brooks- Mc Laughlin
