Cloud Software Engineer

Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.

The Company operates Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world, and Specs Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to making computing more human, in addition to Bitmoji, Saturn, and other digital services.

Specs Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Snap Inc. dedicated to making computing more human.

The company develops Specs, advanced eyewear that seamlessly integrates digital experiences into the physical world. Specs feature see-through lenses that place digital objects directly into three-dimensional space, powered by Snap OS, a proprietary, context-aware operating system designed for natural interaction with your hands and voice.

Specs Inc. also provides Lens Studio, a full suite of advanced developer tools that powers immersive augmented reality experiences across Specs, Snapchat, and other services.

We're looking for a Cloud Software Engineer to join the Specs team at Snap Inc. You'll build and operate the cloud services behind Specs. Your full-stack experience will help you build the web tools and portals our developers use every day.

What you'll do:

• Design, build, and operate full-stack cloud components and web applications on AWS and GCP that power Specs and the developer ecosystem for AR experiences at Snap.

• Build the web-based developer console/portal and foundational services that external and internal developers use to build, manage, and deploy Lenses for Specs, prioritizing exceptional Developer Experience (DX) and intuitive frontend design.

• Own services end-to-end in production, including SLOs, on-call rotations, capacity planning, and incident response, ensuring Specs experiences stay reliable globally.

• Engineer infrastructure with strong isolation, encryption, and access-control guarantees so security and privacy are built in by design — a critical bar for a wearable, always-on AR device.

• Partner with internal product and engineering teams across Specs to onboard them onto new platform capabilities and make sure those platforms meet their requirements.

• Collaborate with Security, Privacy, and Compliance partners to ensure infrastructure meets Snap's bar for data protection and regulatory obligations.

• Help shape the longer-term technical direction of the Specs cloud platform.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

• Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and cloud infrastructure at scale on AWS (e.g. EC2, EKS, S3, IAM, KMS)

• Proficiency in Go, JavaScript/TypeScript

• Production experience with full-stack web development (e.g., React, TypeScript, Node.js) alongside containerization and cloud tooling (Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, and cloud architecture

• Ability to drive scope and deliver complex platform projects with minimal supervision

• Strong problem-solving skills and a bias for diving into end-to-end details

• Friendly, efficient, and proactive communicator who collaborates effectively across engineering, security, privacy, product, and design teams

• Comfortable balancing the need to ship foundational capabilities quickly with the stability and operational maturity expected of platform infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience operating workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in addition to AWS, and familiarity with multi-cloud and multi-region architectures

• Hands-on experience building developer portals, web consoles, or self-serve developer tools with a strong emphasis on UX/DX and frontend design best practices

• Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and secrets / identity management

• Experience with confidential / secure compute environments, zero-trust architectures, or privacy-preserving systems

• Working knowledge of C++, Java, Python

• Experience supporting consumer hardware, wearables, or AR/VR products from the cloud
