Software Engineer II (Backend Java)

Services within Mastercard is responsible for acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers by managing fraud and risk, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving the digital payments experience. We provide value-added services and leverage expertise, data-driven insights, and execution.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Work as part of a development Scrum team in an Agile environment that is geographically diverse

• Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software backend (REST API) solutions

• Define requirements for new applications and customization adhering to Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices

• Develop, customize, and test applications to integrate to Mastercard’s specifications

All About You: The ideal candidate would have the following skills:

• Advanced Java development skills

• Advanced skills and knowledge of Java 17+, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate

• Experience in building RESTful services and clients using the Spring framework

• Experience working with Junit/Mockito/Spring Test

• Experience with container & vmss deployments

• Ability to innovate and develop new approaches to complex design problems

• Basic security knowledge (TLS, Encryption, hashing, JWT)

• Knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure, AWS or PCF

• Knowledge of agentic AI and/or building custom agents/skills

The ideal candidate may also possess some of these secondary skills:

• Experience with NoSQL databases

• Experience with Git, Jenkins, Maven/Gradle

• Experience with File Transfer Service (FTP/SFTP)

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in Canada, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive pay based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.

Pay Ranges

Vancouver, Canada: $91,000 - $140,000 CAD
