Analytics Engineer

Visma is not just your average company – we're a leading Norwegian player in the mission-critical business software scene, making a real impact. Picture us as the folks who find, build, and deliver software that genuinely makes life better for millions of people worldwide.

Our software? It's the magic wand that simplifies and automates those tricky work processes, giving folks the freedom to enjoy their everyday lives a bit more. Now, here's the cool part – Visma isn't just a company; it's a dynamic network of go-getters, each running their show with that startup flair, unique personality, and strong leadership.

What sets us apart? Well, each of our companies gets to do its thing – we call it business autonomy. It's like a secret sauce that keeps our growth game strong. Our mission is simple but powerful: we want to empower people by making complex tasks easy. Looking forward, we're not just tech enthusiasts; we're on a mission to shape the future of society through our tech wizardry.

About the Role

We're looking for a** Data Analytics Engineer **to join our Group Data & Analytics team and help shape how data gets modeled, tested, and delivered across Visma. You'll work hands-on across the full analytics stack — from modelling and transformation to dashboards and stakeholder-facing analysis — turning raw, Group-wide data into trusted, well-governed models that power decision-making across the organisation.

This is an AI-heavy role: you'll be expected to use AI tools as a core part of your daily workflow — not just for writing SQL faster, but for documentation, testing, code review, data modeling design discussions, and increasingly, building AI-assisted or agentic data workflows. We want someone who's genuinely curious about how AI changes the way analytics engineering gets done, with a habit of experimenting and bringing learnings back to the team — not just someone who tolerates it.

What we expect from you:

Data modelling and transformation

• Design, build, and maintain robust dimensional data models and transformation pipelines using SQL and dbt in BigQuery

• Profile, clean, and verify data before publishing; write and maintain dbt tests to guarantee quality

• Contribute to the design and adoption of a semantic/metrics layer for consistent, governed self-service analytics

• Monitor pipeline observability and alerts, troubleshoot failures, and actively reduce technical debt

Analysis and insight

• Build and maintain trustworthy, user-friendly dashboards in Data Studio

• Perform descriptive, diagnostic, and statistical analyses to surface patterns, operational bottlenecks, and strategic opportunities

• Partner with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders across the group to define consistent metrics and reusable data models

• Advise colleagues on analytics best practices

AI-assisted development and analytics

• Use Claude and other AI tools extensively — for code generation, review, documentation, debugging, and testing

• Explore and pilot AI-driven approaches to analysis, such as natural-language querying over the semantic layer, and agentic data workflows

• Help shape responsible AI adoption in the team: evaluate tools, share what works, and ensure AI-generated code and outputs meet the same quality, security, and governance standards as everything else

• Exercise sound judgment about AI-generated output — verify rather than trust, and keep data privacy and confidentiality front of mind

Ways of working

• Work as a developer in a Scrum team, using Git/GitHub, code review, and CI/CD workflows

• Refine user stories and requirements with the Data Product Manager into technical specifications and deliverables

• Maintain technical documentation and release traceability; log bugs and improvement ideas in Jira

• Contribute to continual process improvement

Governance and security

• Ensure data models and transformations follow established data governance standards, with strict separation of development, test, and production environments

• Apply access control, data classification, and data handling protocols, including proper treatment of personal data (PII) and confidential financial and operational records in line with GDPR

What you bring to the table:

• Experience working as an Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst, or in a similar role focused on data modelling and visualisation.

• Advanced SQL knowledge and solid, hands-on experience with dbt.

• Practical experience with a major cloud platform (GCP) and a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery).

• Experience with **Data Studio **or similar BI visualisation tools.

• Comfort with **Git/GitHub **workflows (branching, PRs, code review).

• Analytical and statistical skills for data profiling, verification, and problem solving.

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining dbt projects — models, tests, documentation, and macros — in a production environment.

• Genuine, active experience using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) in a technical workflow — able to speak concretely about how you use them, not just that you have.

• High attention to detail, a proactive approach to risk, and a commitment to data security.

• Adaptability to changing demands and expectations.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

Bonus Points (Nice to Have):

• Experience in a large, multi-product organization with distributed data ownership

• Familiarity with data governance, data contracts, or semantic/metrics layer tooling

• Interest in exploring agentic AI workflows for data engineering tasks

• Experience with Python for auxiliary tooling or automation

What you can expect from us: In our nordic-inspired work environment, we appreciate flexibility, autonomy, and a collaborative spirit. If you're someone who enjoys getting hands-on, work/life balance, values learning and finds joy in sharing experiences with colleagues.. you're in the right place!

• We love that you bring your ideas to the table: You will be part of a culture that favours experiments and value initiative, so it’s easy to get your ideas heard.

• Make an impact from day 1: We want you to experience meaning as much as you experience mastery through creating value that impacts people's everyday lives. And you get to influence how to go about creating that value with full autonomy of your work.

• Flexibility at all stages of life: Work is an important part of life. Yet, we know that you are much more than your job. We make room for people at all stages of life.

• We invest in your competence: When you step into Visma, opportunities from A-Z awaits. You will be met by engaged leaders that care for and support you, and take part in competence sharing and learning networks across Visma within.

• We embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment: Our team thrives on different backgrounds, experiences, and ideas, creating a welcoming space where everyone belongs and can contribute their best.

• Above all, we are a team: Team spirit is key for us to deliver on our promises to people and society, but most importantly; to form a culture where people support and care for each other as much as we have tons of fun together

• Total compensation: 30k - 45k EUR (annual)

We celebrate a culture where everyone's uniqueness contributes to our collective success. Feel free to share a bit about yourself, your interests and what makes you thrive both at work and in life. We're looking forward to learning more about you!
