Internship
BIOVIA offers a wide range of products and services for scientists, helping them solve daily problems as well as fundamental research questions.
Industrial processes worldwide depend on a wide variety of materials whose performance determines the efficiency, durability, and profitability of the final product. Choosing the most suitable material (e.g., porous structures, catalysts, polymers, alloys, composites, etc.) is a complex multi-criteria problem that traditionally requires numerous laboratory tests.
With thousands of candidate structures already listed in public and private databases, a purely experimental approach is no longer feasible. Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-throughput simulation make it possible to pre-screen large material libraries, predict key performance indicators, and guide experimental work towards the most promising candidates.
The Materials Studio product is developed in our Cambridge, UK offices by a team of scientists, many of whom are recognized experts in fields such as quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and polymer science.
This internship will be carried out in France, in Valbonne, in collaboration with our materials simulation team based in Cambridge, UK, in an environment composed of internationally recognized experts in fields such as quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and polymer science.
The purpose of this internship is to develop an end-to-end AI-driven workflow that links knowledge extraction, material generation, property prediction, and experimental planning in a closed-loop "design predict and validate" for:
Accelerating material discovery by reducing the number of necessary laboratory experiments, the platform shortens development cycles and reduces costs.
Bridging the gap between AI and the laboratory: Providing a concrete example of how large language models, autonomous agents, and high-throughput simulations can be combined in a real R&D framework.
Optimizing for any material class: Even if the initial focus may be on porous structures, the architecture is generic and can be reused for catalysts, polymers, alloys, composites, etc.
Creating a reusable knowledge asset: The organized database and AI-driven workflow become long-term assets for the organization's broader research portfolio.
You are in your final year of a Master's degree (Bac+5) looking for a 6-month internship. Solid background in physics and chemistry, strong computer skills and AI knowledge, motivated and able to work independently. Knowledge of a scripting language such as Python is essential. Due to constant exchanges with the team based in Cambridge (UK), a good command of English is expected.
