Within the Corporate Strategy & Research department, you will join the Healthcare Immersive Experiences team, specializing in computer vision, modeling, 3D rendering, artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).

Its mission is to invent the immersive techniques and content of tomorrow, through innovative experiences based on the virtual twin of the human being, with the aim of improving the lives of patients and the work of doctors.

Traditional medicine requires sharp expertise in medical procedures and advanced knowledge in interpreting medical images. The emergence of immersive technologies and generative artificial intelligence models offers a major opportunity to transform clinical practice, particularly by accelerating surgical planning and optimizing the decision-making process.

In the context of coronary pathologies, the modeling and analysis of the 3D geometry of arteries are critical for diagnosis and surgical planning. Many AI-based solutions are conceivable for automatically analyzing these coronary artery structures, but the scarcity and heterogeneity of medical data are major obstacles. We are therefore seeking to facilitate the creation of medical datasets, with the help of immersive technologies (XR), intelligent tools, and AI agents, to segment coronary arteries visible on traditional medical images faster and more accurately.

Your Missions

• During this internship, you will develop an immersive application (AR or VR) to segment 3D coronary arteries from medical images such as CT scans. Such systems improve data set creation but pose new challenges that we invite you to address:
  • Propose simple and innovative interactions
  • Capture and understand user intent through their gestures: position and orientation, hand and finger speed
  • Evaluate whether it is advantageous to use other complementary data in a multimodal approach by exploiting gaze, voice, or haptic feedback styluses
  • Identify interactions for which an AI agent genuinely adds value
  • Optimize the user's field of view and workspace to improve work efficiency

More specifically, you will have the opportunity to carry out the following missions:

• Conduct a review and technological watch of existing 3D segmentation solutions, immersive or not, as well as classic or AI-based paradigms for 3D drawing and modeling in XR (3D brushes, tubes, palettes, selection, snapping)

• Define with your manager the approach that will achieve the best compromise between ease of use and efficiency

• Develop a demonstrator in AR or VR. You can rely on our existing components (XR, 3D rendering, medical image loading, AI agents) or propose a new approach

• Quantify the real added value of the developed solution through user tests

During your mission, you will collaborate with all members of the Research team, as well as R&D experts from Dassault Systèmes and doctors. The idea for this internship is to develop a demonstrator that validates the effectiveness of the chosen approach.

Your Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Master 2 / Bac+5 in an Engineering School or University, specializing in Computer Science, Computer Vision, 3D Graphics, HCI (Human-Computer Interactions), Applied Mathematics, or AI, and looking for an internship of 5 to 6 months.

Desired technical skills:

• You have knowledge of 3D (THREE.js, WebGL, WebGPU, or OpenGL).

• You are proficient in JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, or Swift.

• Prior experience in WebXR, WebRTC, Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot Engine, iOS, ARKit, RealityKit, visionOS, or HoloLens development would be an asset.

• Skills in 3D modeling (SolidWorks, CATIA, Blender, TiltBrush / OpenBrush, SketchUp) are highly appreciated.

• Good knowledge of AI agent development would be a plus.

• Your English level allows you to understand and write technical documents.

• You are innovative, passionate about new AR, VR technologies, AI agents, and human-machine interactions.

• You have a strong interest in the medical field.
