Job Description:
Leonardo is an international industrial group, among the world's leading companies in Aerospace, Defense and Security, which creates multi-domain technological capabilities in Helicopters, Aircraft, Aerostructures, Electronics, Cyber Security and Space. With over 60,000 employees worldwide, the company has a solid industrial presence in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, the United States, and operates in 150 countries also through subsidiaries, joint ventures and shareholdings. A protagonist of the main strategic programs at a global level, it is a technological and industrial partner of Governments, Defense Administrations, Institutions and companies. In 2024, Leonardo recorded consolidated revenues of € 17.8 billion, new orders for € 20.9 billion, and invested € 2.5 billion in R&D activities. Innovation, continuous research, digital industry and sustainability are the pillars of its business worldwide.
Experienced tutors in their sector will follow you, allowing you to deepen the theoretical part and develop your thesis, preparing you best for future professional challenges.
The topics proposed for theses to be carried out in Leonardo embrace a vast spectrum of technological, research and innovation areas: from Artificial Intelligence to High-Performance Computing, from Cyber Security to Materials Engineering, passing through the aerospace sectors. You will be able to explore the most avant-garde areas of your field of study, with creativity and an innovative spirit.
To support you during this experience, which will last a maximum of six months, an expense reimbursement is also provided.
We are looking for 1 young student to develop their thesis entitled “Analyze the application of numerical simulation to the Forming and Curing processes of composite components”, to be placed as an intern at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant.
Leonardo's Aircraft Division is involved in the development of complex aeronautical programs related to the world of New Initiatives, characterized by a strong product and process peculiarity, pushing Leonardo to investigate problems that, although known, were subject to iterative solutions and post-first prototype.
In a context where historical data can be used, it is possible to hypothesize the creation of a predictive analytical calculation model that allows, respecting the process tolerances involved, to preventively correct all deformations (counter warpage) during the manufacturing processes of an anisotropic material such as aeronautical composite material in carbon fiber reinforced polymer with fibers oriented differently for each layer of the material itself, and produced according to the most modern forming and automatic lamination technologies present in Leonardo.
The candidate will be inserted into the multidisciplinary team of New Initiatives of Leonardo Aircraft Division and will contribute to the definition of the predictive model and on-field verification, evaluate the predictive capacity of the models in describing process deformations and distortions. study geometric compensation methodologies (counter-warpage) to improve the conformity of the final component, support the optimization of tool design and process parameters, reduce time, costs and experimental activities in the industrialization phases.
