Lead Product Designer, Jira

Overview

Working at Atlassian

Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.

Jira is the beating heart of Atlassian’s System of Work, evolving from a system that helps teams manage work into an intelligent partner for how modern work gets done.

Unifying organizational context, capabilities, and agentic workflows - and enriched by the Teamwork Graph and powered by Rovo, 1P, and 3P agents - Jira turns everyday collaboration into a blend of human creativity, enterprise-grade reliability and agent-driven execution.

Your future team

The Jira Design team’s remit is to continuously evolve Jira into the modern choice for work management and to unleash the power of every team.

We are looking for a Lead Product Designer to be a key contributor within the Jira Design team. In this role, you will report into a Senior Design Manager, and join an organization consisting of multiple teams in Australia and North America. As a lead individual contributor, you'll lead and execute strategic work across Jira, Atlassian’s flagship product within the Teamwork Collection app suite.

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

As a Lead Product Designer, you will conceptualise and deliver industry-leading experiences. You’ll mentor our Jira design team, lead strategic initiatives, set cohesive vision, and manage interconnected projects so Jira feels designed by one hand.

As a Product Designer at Atlassian, you'll:

• Make a substantial impact at scale. We have more than 10M users worldwide, and teams both large and small depend on our software. As a designer involved from product strategy to UI implementation, your work will have direct customer impact.

• You will own the entire design process. Instead of designing isolated features, you will define end-to-end product experiences and user journeys.

• Collaborate with some of the industry’s smartest and kindest people. You’ll work on a multidisciplinary product team with engineers, product managers, content designers, researchers, brand and marketing experts, and analysts to advocate for the user experience and ship industry-leading work.

• Amplify Atlassian’s System of Work and Jira’s role within the Teamwork Collection app suite. You will help usher in a new era of connected context, powerful Rovo capabilities and third-party agent tooling and integrations.

• Champion our users and great design. We run a world-class design organisation and aim to make customers love our products, measuring our work against competitors and industry standards.

What this looks like day-to-day

• Design end-to-end experiences that integrate AI into Jira workflows and collaboration.

• Design journeys and patterns that modernise Jira’s design language and create cohesion across our platform, Rovo and 1P/3P agentic workflows.

• Partner with leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define a unified vision for modern work management at Atlassian.

• Lead design projects from concept to delivery, owning customer value, outcomes, and impact.

• Define success metrics to ensure designs deliver customer value and business impact.

• Identify opportunities to improve our apps and platform and to advance AI-native product evolution.

Your background

• 7+ years of product design experience designing complex or enterprise-level software

• High level of craft in visual design execution

• Strong prototyping skills, with the ability to present clear options, configurations and trade-offs

• Recent experience designing AI-native processes, workflows and agentic tooling

• Experience in end-to-end UX and product design, crafting impactful solutions to challenging problems

• Passion for storytelling, with the ability to bring design direction to life through a compelling narrative

• Experience conducting and applying customer research, including design thinking, prototyping and conceptual modelling

• Experience balancing customer needs with business goals, market viability and technical feasibility

• Facilitation and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the demonstrated ability to integrate the work of multiple teams, solicit and synthesise feedback, and facilitate design discussions that lead to clear progress and outcomes

• Experience measuring success through qualitative and quantitative methods

• The ability to define complex projects, requirements, measures of success, testing approaches and feedback mechanisms

• Strong stakeholder management, risk mitigation and negotiation skills

• Experience improving processes and methodologies to increase product value, team velocity and adoption of new capabilities
