Job Description

Why we think you’ll want to join us

• Meaningful team mission with huge global reach: You’ll be fighting money laundering, terrorism financing and human exploitation across Wise’s £145B+ annual cross-border volume. You’ll be working with global regulators and law enforcement across 65+ licenses and 160+ countries.

• Cutting edge tech: You’ll be developing state of the art systems to prevent and detect crime in real time, spanning machine learning, LLMs and anything else your team feels is needed to tackle the problem.

• Product led company: Wise lives and breathes empowerment. Our growth and progress is all down to autonomous product teams investing in what they believe will get us to our mission. You and the team have full authority to decide and the responsibility to get results.

• Learn from experienced product leadership: You’ll work directly with product management veterans who will invest in your growth and development. You’ll work with Surbhi and Susana, and learn from Gergő and Nilan.

• Beloved products: Imagine every time you tell someone you work at Wise being showered with compliments about how much they love the product. Our most recent Net Promoter Score was 65+, and over 70% of new customers come through “word-of-mouth”.

We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to join our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Squad to make a meaningful dent in global financial crime.

Wise moves £145B+ annually across borders and customers love us for how easy and how cheap it is. You know who else loves moving money cheaply across borders across borders? Criminals looking to launder proceeds of crime.

This is where you come in. Our vision is clean money without borders. We have made great progress in developing a general crime catching machine learning model, and now we need to dig deeper, and get a whole lot more specific. You’ll dive deep into criminal typologies, become an expert in how international crime takes place, and build advanced systems that catch hyper-targeted, regional, criminal behaviour.

About the team

• The AML Squad works across our offices in London and Tallinn. We are growing the Squad, and adding new teams to make faster progress in our fight against crime.

• The AML Squad owns all anti-money laundering, terrorism financing and human exploitation typologies and risks. This includes customer risk scoring, risk prevention, live risk detection, investigations and reporting to Financial Intelligence Units across the globe.

• You’ll be joining one of the cross-functional product teams in the squad focused on detection.

• We measure success by two metrics: AML Recall and Cost of Suspicious Activity Report (SAR).

• AML Recall measures how much of the crime we actually catch. We want this to be as high as possible, and are rapidly expanding our coverage of hyper specific crime detection in addition to our already strong general model.

• Cost of SAR measures how much it costs us to detect, investigate and report a criminal to the relevant authorities. We want this to be as low as possible, and are investing a lot in high precision automation including some cool stuff with LLMs.

You’ll own the challenge of

• Setting new standards of live detecting hyper specific and regional crime at scale, in a way that satisfies our regulatory obligations globally and works financially for our business.

• Working with regional compliance officers (known in the industry as the second line of defense) to deliver global controls that have a strong reputation with local regulators and law enforcement.

• Working with data scientists, product analysts, product designers, product compliance managers, operations leads and software engineers to ensure the team ship the best possible product.

This role will give you the opportunity to

• Choose your own path to success - you’ll have the freedom to define the vision and the responsibility for making it happen

• Be flexible in how and where you work, we understand everyone needs a little something different so we’ll do our best to make it happen

• Travel to work with our teams in London and Tallinn as well as meet various partners and organisations globally when needed

• Inspire teams with your ideas, knowledge and self-starting attitude

Qualifications

A bit about you:

• You are a seasoned PM who has solved large problems at a scale.

• We are open to both Principal and Senior level candidates.

• At the Principal PM level we expect at least 6 years of direct product management experience, ideally closer to 10. For Senior PMs the range is 4 to 8 years.

• You are customer obsessed. You approach every problem from the eyes of the customer. In Anti-Money Laundering, regulators and law enforcement are our “customers”. You need to demonstrate how you apply your user research and empathy skills to build in a way that will make these customers love Wise.

• You have direct and extensive experience in building machine learning, LLM or other advanced algorithmic or data heavy products. Bonus points if this was in anti-money laundering, fraud, fincrime or trust and safety domains.

• You can use different data points, both qualitative and quantitative, to identify, diagnose and prioritise problems and opportunities to solve them.

• You are able to turn a vision into clear, tangible building blocks of a roadmap and have a clear definition of done.

• You have extensive experience of working in a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, analysts, data scientists and researchers.

• You’re hands on, and you’d do everything needed to make the team and the product successful. You get it done.

• You are self driven, you deal well with ambiguity, and you can pave the way for things that have never been done before.
