Senior, Expert
ACCIONA Energía is the world's largest 100% renewable energy company without a fossil legacy. With more than 30 years of experience and operations in 20 countries across five continents, ACCIONA Energía offers a wide portfolio of tailored energy solutions for its corporate and institutional clients to meet their decarbonization objectives. This includes the development, engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance of renewable plants – mainly wind and photovoltaic –, energy management and commercialization, energy services, self-consumption, electric mobility, and new technologies such as storage and green hydrogen. ACCIONA Energía is governed by the most demanding environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria.
ACCIONA, in its Energy business line, is looking to incorporate an ESCO Operations Manager for the Private Sector, who will join the Energy Services (ESCO) area at its Madrid Campus.
The position arises from the evolution of the ESCO area towards higher-value projects, long-term contracts, solutions with CAPEX, operation and maintenance, and specific operations adapted to an energy services company. Its mission will be to ensure that the solutions developed by the commercial area and the technical office are executed, commissioned, and operated with criteria of safety, availability, performance, profitability, and risk control.
This role will report to the Director of Energy Services and will lead its own team of project managers, commissioning technicians, and O&M managers.
Lead the execution, commissioning, operation, and operational monitoring phase of private sector ESCO projects, ensuring that the solutions committed to the client are technically and operationally viable, maintainable, replicable, and consistent with ACCIONA Energía's risk profile.
1. Team Leadership and Development
Lead, structure, and grow the operations team (project managers, commissioning technicians, and O&M managers) as the ESCO project portfolio expands.
Define the organizational structure of the team and actively participate in the selection and incorporation processes of new profiles.
Promote the professional development of the team through mentoring, technical training, and career plans.
Establish clear objectives, evaluate performance, and foster a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement within the team.
Act as a technical and leadership reference, delegating with judgment and building internal execution capabilities within the team.
2. Execution and Commissioning Leadership
Lead the start-up, planning, execution, and operation and maintenance of energy projects from contract signing to stable operation.
Coordinate detailed engineering, technical purchases, construction, assembly, testing, legalization, commissioning, and handover to operation.
Supervise compliance with deadlines, CAPEX, technical quality, permits, contractual conditions, and safety requirements.
Ensure execution compatible with the ESCO model: long-term contracts, future operation, guaranteed performance, and continuous client relationship.
3. Technical, Operational, and Risk Management
Coordinate engineering firms, technology providers, EPC contractors, installers, maintainers, and specialized partners.
Validate that proposed solutions are operable, maintainable, and appropriate for the client's process before committing to relevant contractual obligations.
Participate early in the review of projects with future operation to identify technical, performance, availability, integration risks in the client's facilities, and maintainability.
Support the definition of GO / NO GO criteria from an operational and risk perspective, avoiding projects that we cannot execute or operate with guarantees.
Define mitigation measures, responsibilities, guarantees, SLAs, and operational limits before the binding offer closing and contract.
4. Client Interaction and Internal Coordination
Act as the technical-operational lead for the client during execution, commissioning, and operation and maintenance.
Ensure that the implemented solution meets the committed service levels, performance, savings, availability, or production.
Coordinate with Commercial, Technical Office, Bidding, Legal, Finance, Purchasing, and Health & Safety to ensure a unified project vision.
Translate the client's operational needs into technical requirements, operational procedures, and measurable commitments.
5. Continuous Improvement, Standardization, and Scalability
Participate in the definition of technical standards, execution methodologies, and operational checklists for ESCO projects.
Document learnings from each project and convert them into replicable criteria for future offers, contracts, and operations.
Support the standardization of solutions and operational models by technological typology: heating, cooling, PV, BESS, energy efficiency, energy management, and renewable gases.
Contribute to building a more selective, disciplined ESCO operation aligned with actual execution and operational capacity.
Requirements
Degree in Industrial Engineering, Energy, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar. Postgraduate training in project management, energy, sustainability, or operations management will be valued.
Minimum 10-15 years of experience in execution, operation, engineering, or management of energy, industrial, or energy services projects.
Experience in projects for private clients, especially industrial, tertiary, or large corporate clients.
Solid knowledge of energy efficiency technologies, renewable thermal generation, electrification, industrial heating/cooling, photovoltaics, self-consumption, BESS, monitoring, and O&M.
Experience in managing complex projects with multiple suppliers, EPC contractors, installers, technologists, and maintainers.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary environments, with private clients from different sectors (industrial, tertiary, etc.) and under long-term contractual models.
