Within the Cyber & Security Solutions Area, we are looking for a Cybersecurity Researcher in the Digital Lab for our Rome Laurentina office.

The person will be responsible for the following activities:

• Conduct advanced research and development activities on cellular/baseband (5G/6G), SATCOM, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, NB-IoT, Bluetooth and in general on Radio Frequency (RF) security (attacks, vulnerability analysis, defense mechanisms).

• Integration of RF security solutions within products and services.

• Development of RF protocol prototypes using Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies, aimed at Cyber ElectroMagnetic Activities (CEMA) applications.

• Work on research and development projects ensuring compliance with deadlines, quality of results and defined objectives.

• Work closely with other company functions (e.g. Product Development, Product Management, Engineering, Innovation, Marketing, Strategy and Sales) ensuring the alignment of laboratory activities with the needs, initiatives and objectives of the business division.

Educational Qualification: Preferably Ph.D. (doctorate) in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Master's Degree in the same disciplines with proven experience in the Security & Privacy domain.

Seniority: Several years of experience in similar roles (at least 2-5 years in the position), with a proven ability to manage research and development projects in the cybersecurity field.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• Solid knowledge of applied cryptography (symmetric, asymmetric, hashing functions, key exchange and negotiation protocols).

• Proven experience in the analysis and design of security protocols for IoT and edge.

• In-depth knowledge of tools for offensive and defensive analysis of wireless protocols.

• Ability to use tools for formal protocol analysis, and penetration testing techniques.

• Knowledge of wireless technologies (WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRa, NB-IoT, etc.) and their security vulnerabilities.

• Basic experience with SDR for experimental research activities.

• Analyze and evaluate wireless technologies used in IoT and edge environments.

• Skills in traffic analysis and reverse engineering of black and white box wireless security protocols.

• Skills in the design, implementation and programming of RF transceivers on SDR platforms, with development in Python, C/C++ and on the GNU Radio framework.

Behavioral skills:

• Excellent analytical skills, critical thinking and Problem Solving, with a results-oriented approach.

• Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with team members, cross-functional groups or external stakeholders. Public speaking skills, techniques and experiences are particularly appreciated.

• The candidate must have interpersonal skills, time and priority management, team-working attitude, adaptability, empathy, stress management, self-motivation.

Language skills:

English (C1 – reading, writing, listening, speaking)

IT skills:

• Version control: Git, GitHub/GitLab.

• Machine Learning and AI: scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch (if used).

• Advanced Programming (C, C++, Rust, Python, MATLAB …).

• Virtualization and containerization: Docker, Kubernetes, Python virtual environments, Conda.

Other (e.g. Availability to travel, specific certifications…):

• GIAC Assessing and Auditing Wireless Networks (GAWN), OffSec Wireless Professional (OSWP), OffSec Certified Professional (OSCP).

• Publications at international conferences and journals on Security & Privacy / Wireless Security domain.

• Master or PhD. in Cybersecurity / Wireless Security.

• Active participation in technological community activities at national and international level.
