Whirlpool Corporation is seeking a Senior Analyst Engineer to join the Dishwasher Team at the Saint Joseph Technology Center in Saint Joseph, Michigan.Operating onsite, this role centers on driving New Product Development (NPD) to develop & deliver innovative electromechanical, thermal, and hydraulic components for NAR dishwasher products. The successful candidate will be the module owner for Dry System and be the attribute owner for Dry Performance and Satisfaction.
As a technical leader, you will collaborate closely with system architects, laboratory teams, and procurement leads to develop and execute comprehensive Dry module roadmaps complementing Energy requirements. This position requires an engineering professional who can effectively partner with global design studios, external suppliers, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) implementation. Responsibilities also include managing release schedules, mitigating risks, and achieving key Total Cost of Quality (TCQ) and Total Variable Cost (TVC) goals across global product lines.
The ideal candidate will leverage real-life consumer insights and emerging industry trends to design solutions for the next generation of home appliances. Acting as a mentor and collaborator within a highly successful, globally distributed team, you will establish data acquisition strategies and conduct deep technical reviews to continuously improve Dry system performance and reliability. Domestic travel will be required periodically to lead workshops, conduct research, and participate in cross-functional project reviews.
Research, Design & Technology Roadmap Innovation & Value Creation: Research, design, and develop advanced electromechanical and thermal technologies that deliver a compelling value proposition for customers and the business.
Strategic Roadmapping: Develop global, long-term electromechanical module strategies and technology roadmaps that support product plans and meet target attributes. Product Leadership: Architect and develop technical solutions that secure and maintain industry product leadership. Resource & Knowledge Management: Balance module development with knowledge creation/capture, while effectively managing module-level resource prioritization.
Product Development & Lifecycle Management End-to-End Development: Drive New Product Development (NPD), cost-reduction, and quality-improvement projects for the Dish business, specifically focusing on electromechanical and dry system components (e.g., inlet valves, dispensers, fans, blowers).
Concept to Production: Lead concept development, design creation, evaluation, selection, and verification/validation (V&V) for production implementation (covering plastics, sheet metal, and elastomer components), this includes basic 3D modeling. System Optimization: Optimize existing dry system performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
Execution, Testing & Quality Assurance Develop FMEA and Execute DVP: develop subsystem and component FMEAs, translate those requirements into a DVP and lead the completion of the DVP with V&V, Manufacturing and Simulation teams.
Subsystem Tolerance Analysis: Identify and complete tolerance stacks on critical gaps.
Data & Analysis: Set up and execute data acquisition, analysis, and evaluation to drive data-based design decisions. Design Reviews: Lead and actively participate in detailed technical and design reviews to ensure robust product quality.
Lab Coordination: Manage and coordinate requests for the testing lab and model shop to ensure timely prototyping and validation. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Manufacturing
Global Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with cross-functional and globally distributed teams (Design, Marketing, Manufacturing, etc.) to define release schedules and secure necessary sign-offs for consumer delivery. Supplier & DFM Coordination: Collaborate with procurement and external suppliers to manage tooling development, conducting Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and manufacturability reviews.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering
5+ years of experience in product design and development
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Core Electromechanical Knowledge: Working knowledge of actuators, motors, switches, controls, sensors, and transducers
Proficient in Geometric: Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis
Domain Specifics: Strong understanding of technologies in electromechanical components & appliance cycle algorithm areas
CAD & Simulation Understanding: Experience in 3D CAD modeling and knowledge of simulation tools
Data Acquisition & Analytics: Experience developing data acquisition setups and utilizing statistical analysis tools like Minitab
Project Leadership: Proven project management experience with a demonstrated ability to successfully drive multiple projects simultaneously
Regulatory & Vendor Relations: Experience partnering with external third parties, including suppliers and regulatory bodies
Metrics-Driven Success: An excellent track record of meeting and exceeding Total Cost of Quality (TCQ) and Total Variable costs (TVC) goals and objectives
Quality Methodology: Good understanding of manufacturing processes, component variation, and Six Sigma/Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) best practices
Global Mentorship: Outstanding interpersonal and people skills, with a proven ability to mentor, coach, and support globally distributed team members
Cross-Functional Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization
