About GTEC
Transforming Vision into Reality: The Global Technology & Engineering Center where India’s world-class talent architects the next generation of home innovation.
You will join an elite, global cross-functional strategy and engineering task force within the CAA division at Whirlpool’s Global Technology & Engineering Center (GTEC) in Pune. Operating at the intersection of strategic cost transformation, competitive benchmarking, and product architecture, our team acts as an internal management consulting engine for a Fortune 500 leader in consumer durables. We partner directly with global design leadership, Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS), manufacturing, and product management units to unlock bottom-line value, optimize cost structures, and drive sustained market leadership.
As an Analyst in Mechanical Cost Modeling, you will serve as a core analytical driver responsible for building highly accurate clean-sheet cost models, establishing zero-based costing frameworks, and conducting deep-dive competitive teardowns. Leveraging 7 to 10 years of deep expertise across plastics, sheet metal, and tooling, you will translate granular engineering teardowns into high-level strategic insights that directly influence product architecture decisions, target costing, and long-term margin optimization across global platforms.
Strategic Clean-Sheet & Should-Cost Modeling: Lead end-to-end parametric should-cost model development for complex plastic components, injection tooling, sheet metal dies, and assembly processes in close alignment with Design, Manufacturing, and Plant GSS teams.
Design-to-Cost (DtC) & Teardown Analytics: Direct competitive teardown studies and reverse-engineering initiatives. Synthesize complex teardown data into executive-level process insights, manufacturing sequence roadmaps, and actionable cost-reduction hypotheses.
Strategic Architecture Alignment: Partner with the CAA Architecture Analysis team to build and maintain robust communication matrices and competitive benchmarking databases that inform internal Whirlpool manufacturing strategies.
Supplier & Tooling Cost Optimization: Apply advanced process knowledge of injection molding, stamping, tooling design, and specialized polymer/metal processing to identify cost drivers and benchmark vendor pricing.
Advanced Tooling & Analytics Integration: Deploy cutting-edge costing platforms, CAD/PLM systems, and data visualization engines to elevate team productivity and institutionalize analytical excellence.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor to global project stakeholders, presenting strategic cost insights to senior leadership and framing trade-off analyses between product feature sets, design complexity, and cost.
Granular Should-Cost Frameworks: Detailed injection molding and sheet metal should-cost models and tooling cost estimation models.
Competitive Teardown & Benchmarking Intelligence: Comprehensive teardown analysis reports highlighting design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) opportunities.
Competitive Category & Architecture Strategy Reports: Executive briefings delivering competitive intelligence on product architecture, material selection, and cost positioning.
Competitive Communication Matrix: Standardized cross-functional communication tools mapping cost drivers across global platforms.
Regional Expansion Roadmaps: Strategic assessments identifying local and regional manufacturing/sourcing efficiencies to outperform platform cost targets.
Knowledge Capital & Tooling Governance: Creation of scalable knowledge assets, standardized cost libraries, and continuous improvement of parametric costing tools.
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech).
Experience: 6 to 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical cost modeling, value engineering (VAVE), product teardown analysis, or competitive benchmarking.
Core Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of primary and secondary manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal stamping, tooling design/dies, joining technologies, and surface finishing).
Global Exposure: Proven track record of operating within or leading initiatives in global engineering, consulting, or cross-functional matrix environments.
Technical Competencies:
Structured Problem-Solving & Strategic Analytics: Mastery of hypothesis-driven problem solving, zero-based budgeting/costing, and clean-sheet modeling methodologies.
Costing Engines: Deep expertise in parametric costing platforms (e.g., aPriori, DFMA, Boothroyd Dewhurst).
CAD & PLM Systems: High proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Creo 2.0/4.0+) and enterprise PLM systems (PTC Windchill).
Data Analytics & Executive Dashboards: Advanced capability in business intelligence and data visualization platforms (Tableau, Google Data Studio, Power BI) to communicate complex analytics to non-technical leaders.
Project Governance: Project management certification (PMP or equivalent) or formal Agile project leadership experience preferred.
Managerial:
Executive Presence & Storytelling: Outstanding written, verbal, and visual presentation skills, with a proven ability to frame technical insights into compelling strategic narratives for senior leadership.
Customer & Value Centricity: Strong business acumen focused on total cost of ownership (TCO) and value realization for the end customer.
Agility & Adaptability: High comfort with ambiguity, rapid prioritization, and managing complex stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced environment.
