Senior Director, Global Compliance Policy & Education

The Senior Director, Compliance Policy & Education is a member of the Compliance & Ethics Leadership Team responsible for three enterprise capabilities: Compliance Policy Governance, Compliance Education, Communications & Culture, and Enterprise Non-GxP Policy Administration.

This role establishes the strategy, governance, and operating model for these programs globally and leads a team responsible for policy governance, compliance education, enterprise policy administration, and culture initiatives. The role partners closely with Legal, Human Resources, Enterprise Learning, Corporate Affairs, Information Technology, Quality, Internal Audit, and business leaders to strengthen a culture of integrity and support practical understanding of compliance expectations across BMS.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Policy Governance

Lead governance, administration, and continuous enhancement of BMS’s global compliance policy framework.
Oversee development, review, approval, implementation, and retirement of compliance policies, procedures, standards, guidance, and related resources.
Drive simplification, harmonization, and modernization of compliance policy materials to improve usability, employee experience, and operational effectiveness.
Partner with C&E subject matter experts, Legal, business leaders, and functional stakeholders to translate compliance requirements into clear, practical expectations.
Establish review cadences, governance standards, metrics, and reporting to provide visibility into policy health, review status, risks, and escalations.

Compliance Education, Communications & Culture

Develop and execute the global Compliance & Ethics education, communications, and culture strategy aligned to enterprise risks, business priorities, and regulatory expectations.
Serve as the primary relationship owner between Compliance & Ethics and BMS Enterprise Learning, partnering on global compliance learning strategies, curricula, deployment plans, and engagement initiatives.
Oversee foundational, role-based, and risk-based compliance education programs and ensure content is practical, engaging, measurable, and aligned with business needs.
Lead compliance communications and awareness initiatives that reinforce integrity, accountability, transparency, and ethical decision-making across the enterprise.
Own and oversee the BMS Integrity Champion Program and global Integrity Champion network, leveraging the network to promote ethical culture, awareness, and compliance engagement.
Monitor education effectiveness, engagement, and culture-related metrics and use insights to enhance program impact.

Enterprise Non-GxP Policy Administration

Serve as enterprise leader for administrative management and lifecycle governance of BMS non-GxP policy documents.
Oversee document control support, metadata management, version control, approval coordination, periodic review tracking, archival processes, and document retirement activities.
Maintain operating processes that support clear accountability, timely reviews, accurate classification, and escalation of overdue or at-risk policy documents.
Partner with functional document owners, enabling functions, Worldwide Commercial, IT, and other stakeholders to keep policy resources accessible, current, and consistently governed.
Develop reports, dashboards, escalation processes, and management routines to support transparency and effective oversight of non-GxP policy document health.

Leadership & Enterprise Partnership

Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for policy governance, compliance education, training administration, document governance, and related program activities.
Create an inclusive, accountable, and innovative team culture focused on business partnership, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee development.
Manage priorities, staffing plans, vendor relationships, budgets, and resource allocation for policy, education, communications, culture, and document governance activities.
Serve as a member of the C&E Leadership Team and contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and continuous evolution of the global compliance program.
Support compliance program assessments, benchmarking, audit or inspection readiness, and executive reporting related to policy, education, culture, and non-GxP document administration.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree required.
Advanced degree preferred, such as JD, MBA, MPH, MS, MA, MSJ, or equivalent.

Experience

10–12 years of progressive experience in Compliance, Ethics, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, Learning & Development, Policy Governance, or a related function.
People leadership experience, including leading direct reports and managing teams, projects, priorities, and stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
Demonstrated experience designing, operating, or enhancing compliance programs, global policy frameworks, enterprise learning strategies, or controlled-document governance processes.
Experience partnering with enterprise learning organizations to design, deploy, and measure the effectiveness of enterprise-wide training strategies and tactics.
Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, healthcare, or other highly regulated industry experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Compliance certification preferred, such as CCEP, CCEP-I, CHC, HCCP, or equivalent.
Experience overseeing enterprise policy management systems, document governance platforms, learning management systems, or related compliance technology.
Experience using data, analytics, employee feedback, learning metrics, and program effectiveness measures to inform strategy and continuous improvement.
Experience operating in a global, matrixed organization with diverse cultural and regulatory environments.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Deep understanding of healthcare compliance, ethics, corporate governance, policy management, learning strategy, and compliance program effectiveness principles.
Exceptional written communication, policy drafting, editing, and executive communication skills.
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders, build trusted partnerships, and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
Ability to translate complex regulatory, compliance, and policy concepts into practical, clear, and user-centered business guidance.
Strong strategic thinking, judgment, problem-solving, program management, and operational execution capabilities.
High degree of integrity, discretion, accountability, and commitment to ethical leadership and patient-centered decision-making.

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $230,440 - $279,233

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
