Head of Cedant Facultative - Malaysia
We're hiring! We are looking for a Head of Cedant Facultative to lead our Reinsurance team in Malaysia. This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from the office.

What the day will look like
Lead the cedant-focused facultative reinsurance business in Malaysia, with accountability for strategy, growth, client leadership, placement quality and team performance. Build senior relationships with key cedants and reinsurers, lead complex facultative opportunities, and connect local execution with regional priorities and capabilities.
Business Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
Own and deliver the cedant facultative strategy for Malaysia in line with regional priorities.
Drive sustainable and profitable premium growth across target lines, including Property, Casualty and Specialty.
Lead portfolio planning, pipeline management and performance reviews, with focus on retention, conversion, hit ratios, revenue and margin.
Identify market opportunities, priority cedants and areas for product or solution development.
Client & Cedant Leadership
Act as the senior relationship lead for key cedants, including Heads of Reinsurance, Chief Underwriting Officers and other executive stakeholders.
Lead major renewals, new business pitches, portfolio discussions and the structuring of complex facultative solutions.
Understand cedant strategy, capital and risk-transfer needs, and develop facultative solutions that complement treaty and direct arrangements.
Build trusted-adviser relationships and maintain a high standard of client service and delivery.
Market & Placement Leadership
Lead negotiations with Malaysian, regional and international reinsurers for complex risks, programmes and portfolio opportunities.
Set placement strategy and oversee execution, including submissions, quotations, slips, covers, wordings and closing documentation.
Maintain strong reinsurer relationships and develop market capacity aligned with client needs.
Ensure placements and documentation are completed accurately, promptly and in accordance with applicable standards.
Technical Leadership & Quality
Provide senior technical leadership on facultative structures, pricing considerations, contract wordings and placement strategy.
Review and challenge technical work produced by brokers and support colleagues, particularly for complex or material risks.
Champion best practice in submission quality, data, management information and use of internal systems.
Drive consistent broking standards, peer review and continuous improvement across the team.
People Leadership & Collaboration
Lead, coach and develop the Malaysia cedant facultative team, setting clear priorities and fostering accountability, inclusion and collaboration.
Build technical, market and client-management capability through coaching, feedback and knowledge sharing.
Work closely with treaty, retail, analytics, claims and specialty teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
Contribute to regional leadership priorities, cross-border opportunities and strategic initiatives.
Financial Management, Governance, Risk & Compliance
Own the business plan, forecast and performance of the Malaysia cedant facultative portfolio.
Monitor pipeline, revenue, profitability, working capital and operational performance, taking timely action where required.
Operate within delegated authorities, internal policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with Malaysian regulatory requirements and support audits, controls and remedial actions.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Significant experience in reinsurance or large commercial insurance, with deep facultative expertise and a strong track record in leadership roles.
Proven success in setting strategy, growing a profitable portfolio and managing senior cedant relationships.
Demonstrated experience leading complex facultative placements and negotiating with local, regional and international markets.
Strong understanding of the Malaysian and regional insurance and reinsurance market, including relevant regulatory requirements.
Advanced technical knowledge of facultative structures, placement strategy and contract wordings.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, presentation and executive communication skills.
Strong commercial and analytical capability, with confidence using data and management information to drive decisions.
Degree in a relevant field; professional insurance qualifications such as ACII or equivalent are preferred.
