Company:

Oliver Wyman

Description:

What if your next consulting role gave you the opportunity not just to lead projects, but to help build a business?

INNOPAY is a specialist consultancy focused on the rapidly evolving world of digital transactions. We combine deep expertise in payments, digital identity and data sharing with an entrepreneurial way of working — and, as part of Oliver Wyman, the reach, relationships and opportunities of a global consulting firm.

We’re looking for a Director to help lead and grow our INNOPAY team in Germany.

This is a distinctive opportunity for an experienced payments consultant who wants to combine client delivery and commercial impact with team leadership, helping shape the next chapter of our business in the DACH market.

Why Join Us

• Build something. This isn't simply another senior project delivery role. You’ll have the opportunity to help grow INNOPAY in Germany, develop our people, strengthen our client relationships and shape how our specialist business evolves.

• Get the best of two worlds. Bring the agility, specialist expertise and entrepreneurial culture of INNOPAY together with Oliver Wyman’s global footprint, senior relationships and broader capabilities.

• Work at the forefront of digital transactions. Help clients navigate the opportunities emerging across payments, Open Finance, digital identity, data sharing and ecosystem-based business models.

• Have real leadership impact. Become a senior point of contact and management team member for our growing specialist team in Frankfurt, creating an environment where people can perform, develop and thrive.

• Grow your commercial platform. Work alongside INNOPAY and Oliver Wyman senior leaders to originate opportunities, deepen client relationships and build your own network and market presence.

Meet The Team

INNOPAY has been specialising in digital transactions since 2002. With roots in payment innovation — including co-creating Dutch payment solution iDEAL — we have grown our expertise into digital identity and data sharing, working across strategy, proposition development and execution.

Today, INNOPAY is part of Oliver Wyman, giving our specialist teams access to a much broader international network of expertise, clients and senior relationships while retaining what makes INNOPAY distinctive. You’ll be an important senior presence for our Frankfurt-based INNOPAY team, working closely with colleagues in the Netherlands and across Oliver Wyman.

On client engagements, you’ll typically lead multidisciplinary teams of 2–5 consultants, bringing together strategic, commercial, operational and technical perspectives.

How This Role Will Contribute To Team Success

You’ll help us achieve three things:

• Grow our business in Germany. Partner with INNOPAY and Oliver Wyman leaders to turn client relationships and market opportunities into impactful work, while developing your own network

• Lead exceptional consulting. Bring the judgement and consulting craft to take complex client problems from initial conversation through proposal, project delivery and lasting client impact

• Build our team and capabilities. Be a visible leader for our people in Frankfurt, helping grow the team, develop colleagues and strengthen INNOPAY’s propositions and expertise.

Your Day-To-Day

No two weeks will look quite the same, but you can expect to:

• Advise senior clients on digital strategy and transformation across areas including payments, Open Finance, digital identity, data sharing and related digital ecosystems.

• Lead engagements end-to-end, from shaping the initial client problem and proposal through to managing the client relationship, leading the team and delivering the work.

• Turn complexity into action, translating strategic, commercial, operational, regulatory and technical challenges into clear recommendations, roadmaps and propositions.

• Develop business collaboratively, working with INNOPAY and Oliver Wyman senior leaders to identify opportunities, build trusted relationships and win work.

• Lead and develop our people, coaching consultants on the job and acting as an important senior point of contact for our growing Frankfurt team.

• Shape what comes next, helping develop new propositions and identifying where INNOPAY should play as the digital transactions landscape continues to evolve.

Skills & What You Bring to the Team

There are three things that matter most for this role:

Commercial effectiveness: You understand how senior consulting relationships develop into opportunities. You can build credibility with clients, identify where you can create value and help shape and win consulting work.

Strong management consulting leadership: You bring significant management consulting experience and can lead engagements end-to-end — managing senior clients, teams, delivery and the development of the people around you.

Expertise in our market: You know the payments and digital transactions landscape. Your experience could span payments strategy and technology, Open Banking/Open Finance, digital identity, data sharing, APIs, digital ecosystems, product innovation or relevant regulation.

In addition, you’ll bring:

• Around 10+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally developed within a leading consulting environment.

• Proven experience leading consulting teams and developing others.

• The ambition to play a broader leadership role as our German team grows.

• Fluency in German and English.

• The ability to spend multiple days each week with our team in Frankfurt, irrespective of client assignments.

• Flexibility to travel when client work requires it.

What Will Make You Stand Out

An established DACH network is valuable, but it isn't the only route to success here.

We’re equally interested in someone with the commercial instinct and relationship-building skills to take advantage of the broader Oliver Wyman network — collaborating with senior colleagues, building credibility with their clients and developing their own market relationships over time.

You might already be a senior consultant within payments, or you may have started your career in consulting before moving into industry and now be interested in returning. What matters is that you can combine consulting craft, commercial ambition, subject-matter credibility and people leadership.

Above all, we’re looking for someone excited by the opportunity to build, rather than simply inherit.

Living Our Values

At Oliver Wyman, we lead with heart — we love what we do and have fun while we do it. We strive for breakthroughs by seeking diverse perspectives and finding powerful and sustainable solutions. INNOPAY brings its own distinctive culture to that environment: collaborative, entrepreneurial, forward-thinking and deeply focused on our clients.

We’re committed to building a diverse team, and we recognise that uncertainty about meeting every requirement can sometimes stop talented people from applying. If this opportunity excites you but your experience doesn't match every point above, we'd still like to hear from you.

If you require adjustments during the recruitment process, we're happy to discuss them.
