Job Purpose/Overview
This position provides direction and leadership in sanitation and plant hygiene at the North America Ice Cream manufacturing facility. This individual will drive the strategy, development, implementation, and sustainability of a cleaning and sanitation program to meet regulatory, global and corporate requirements related to food safety and sanitation. They will provide the technical expertise that will implement new and creative technologies, processes, and procedures that will reduce microbiological risk and product contamination.
This associate will provide support to the site by supervising and coordinating activities of contractors and associates engaged in duties concerned with food safety, cleaning and sanitation that enable the reliable delivery of products. This position also supports plant profitability by leading sanitation efficiency, including development of more efficient cleaning methods, developing standard work, training, cleaning validation and identification of operational savings. This role will lead indirect reports.
Key Responsibilities
Develops and updates Sanitation Procedures to reflect accurate cleaning processes, correct sanitation chemical management and correct sanitation tasks, executing best practices within Mars; Ensures that all sanitation standard work is properly documented and implemented;
Verify SSOP’s are being followed as intended, through visual inspection, paperwork, ATP technology, data analysis, and other activities as required. This may involve the need for support during weekend or night shift hours occasionally.
Validates SSOP effectiveness through microbiological testing methods in collaboration with Q&FS. Organizes and verifies swabbing schedule and resourcing.
Key contributor to Environmental Monitoring Program continuous improvement. Uses sanitation observations and data to further improve EMP program and support “seek-to-destroy” methodology.
Acts as liaison between the site and third-party sanitation company. Confirms on site scheduling and support needs, organizes validation studies, orders and maintains chemical inventory, as needed schedules reviews of sanitation program.
Trains sanitation personnel and operations on Sanitation Procedures, proper chemical usage and handling. Promotes sanitation philosophies and ensure all levels of participation. This may involve the need for support during weekend or night shift hours occasionally.
Ensures the site Master Sanitation Schedule meets the Mars Global and Regional requirements and regulatory requirements. Ensures the MSS is being adhered to and properly documents. Retains all appropriate records as required per FSSC and Mars requirements.
Continued professional development with an ability to leverage new techniques, best practices, and other experts in the Sanitation field to current situation, with an emphasis on ice cream manufacturing and dairy sanitation.
During investigations, support swabbing activities to verify cleaning effectiveness. Lead cleaning events/activities during incidents and investigation.
Leads continuous improvement as it relates to sanitation programs.
Directly supports investigations and continuous improvement opportunities in close collaboration with Q&FS function, including but not limited to swabbing activities, environmental responses, and incident management.
Communicates clearly and effectively with key stakeholder – supply and operations, maintenance, Q&FS, and site leadership.
Supports and owns all other activities as directed by Line Manager in close collaboration with Q&FS Manager.
Context and Scope
Up to 10% travel
Confers with management, quality and food safety and production personnel on sanitation problems and leads their resolution
Manages supplier relationship with outside cleaning and chemical service providers. Responsible for scheduling external supplier service visits, CIP validation, etc.
Partners with community of practice team members to develop and share sanitation best practices.
Education & Professional Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required (Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science, or relevant Technical degree)
Must be willing to complete specific college courses, sanitation courses and microbiological courses as required to carry out the functions of the role.
Knowledge/Experience
3 years of experience in driving a robust and sustainable sanitation program in CPG manufacturing
5 plus years of experience in driving a robust and sustainable sanitation program in CPG manufacturing preferred
Dairy experience or high risk manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
Must have a working knowledge of Food and Drug Laws, OSHA requirements, etc.
Should have a broad understanding of major functions within the plant and the ability to work directly with individuals at all levels and functions.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
The pay range shown is applicable to all US locations listed within the job posting:USD 79,280.00 - USD 109,010.00
