Sommelier

As a Sommelier, you are not just a wine expert—you’re a storyteller, an experienced-maker, and a champion of sustainable luxury at JOIA. You’ll guide guests through unforgettable journeys of flavor, support the resort’s environmental ethics, and strengthen team capabilities, all while connecting deeply with Aruba’s vibrant culture and Iberostar’s values.

As a Sommelier, What will your day-to-day work be like?:

• Curate, source, and suggest a fine wine list reflecting JOIA’s brand standards.

• Monitor cellar inventory: maintain optimal levels, minimize waste, adhere to budget.

• Achieve goals for wine sales, cost margins, and guest satisfaction ratings.

• Guide guests through wine selections with confidence, storytelling, and enthusiasm.

• Offer tailored pairings to enhance Aruba-inspired dishes and elevate guest delight.

• Handle inquiries, special requests, and complaints with grace and professionalism.

• Train F&B staff on wine service, presentation, pairing principles, and standards.

• Collaborate closely with culinary and events teams to craft memorable dining moments.

• Foster cross-departmental teamwork in line with the Iberostar spirit.

• Implement processes ensuring wine storage, rotation, and serving conditions.

• Maintain records: inventory, vendor contracts, purchasing, and invoices.

• Enforce compliance with regulatory standards (licenses, health & safety, age policies).

• Support Iberostar’s environmental initiatives: reduce waste, embrace eco-friendly packaging.

• Uphold Iberostar’s brand integrity: consistent taste, service, and presentation standards.

Who is the ideal person for this position?:

Education / Credentials:

• Advanced Sommelier certification (Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3/4, or equivalent).

• Formal hospitality education preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 3–5 years in fine-dining or luxury resort wine programs.

• Proven track record in wine list development, inventory control, and vendor negotiation.

Knowledge:

• Advanced spoken and written English and Spanish.

• Sales management

• Stock control
