Job Description: Civil Engineer Reporting: Technical Manager
TASKS – ACTIVITIES – RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
Carry out General and Principal Inspections for trunk road bridges (comprising steel, concrete and masonry), retaining walls and high mast lights.
Perform inspection on projects requiring expertise and knowledge in multiple areas of construction inspection.
Has experience and proficiency in multiple areas of field testing and inspection and or laboratory testing.
Read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications.
To perform assessments and provide advice for service delivery within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
To give technical guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
Follow up on resolution of non-compliance reports (NCR’s).
May assist Project Manager in development of scope for testing and inspection services.
Maintains equipment operation and calibration.
Performs advanced fieldwork and assists with project management.
Assess the risks and work in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health.
Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns with your line manager.
Follow up on resolution of non-compliance reports (NCR’s)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Civil construction or structure background, university degree or equivalent.
3+ years of experience working as a Field Inspector
Knowledge in one of the fields (construction, mechanical, structural/civil, electrical and architectural) is preferred.
Knowledge of materials testing.
Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Good command in office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, …)
Fluent in reading, writing & speaking English is preferred

Can work independently under pressure
Can arrange to travel for inspection jobs
Strong leadership skills – able to lead and manage a team
