CDN Engineer

Join us and build a streaming platform used by millions.

At Sky Czech Republic, we’re building the tech backbone behind some of the world’s biggest streaming services. Ever heard of Peacock in the US or Sky Showtime across Europe, including the Czech Republic? They all run on our global streaming platform — a shared technological core where each service plugs in its own content and brand.

Our platform serves millions of users worldwide — Peacock alone reaches over 40 million viewers in the US. Thousands of engineers across the globe help shape it, and our Prague tech hub plays a key role. We don’t just keep things running; we actively push the boundaries of streaming technology together with teams in Lisbon, London, and New York.

In Prague, we work across a wide range of engineering domains: frontend development (mobile, TV, and web), backend (Java), platform engineering, content delivery networks, video playback (Golang), and data engineering (Python). Whatever your focus, you’ll work on technology used at truly global scale.

What is the plot?

As our CDN Engineer, you’ll join the Content Delivery Engineering team within NBCUniversal’s Global Video Engineering organization. Your mission is to help deliver outstanding VOD, live event, and linear streaming experiences to millions of viewers across our US, UK, EU, and Africa services—including Peacock, SkyShowtime, and NOW/WOW.

You’ll collaborate daily with colleagues and vendors across the US, UK, and beyond - excellent written and spoken English is essential. Our team specializes in large-scale Multi-Content Delivery Network design and operations, performance telemetry and analytics, selection & interfacing with content origins via multiple workflows, dynamic ad insertion, manifest manipulation and integrating new player technologies.

What role will you play?

• Design new and optimize existing content delivery designs to boost performance, improve resilience and expand features for our products and services.

• Focus on using log analysis and observability systems to troubleshoot, diagnose issues and drive in-depth analysis for rapid resolutions.

• Ensure diligent peer review of changes, contributing to our goal of improving reliability and reducing incidents.

• Bring your rigor and insight to the development of our Functional/Non-Functional Testing methods and procedures.

• Create and maintain operations runbooks and checklists for our production delivery.

• Participate in on-call rotation to resolve operational issues and performance degradation.

• Attain a comprehensive, technical understanding of how all NBCUniversal's streaming products and associated technologies operate.

What skills do you need to play your role well?

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a relevant field is preferred.

• A background in CDN or web server/proxy configuration management is desirable but not required, as full CDN training will be provided to the right candidate.

• Sound understanding and use of TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, DNS, HTTP, TLS and load balancing in production.

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

• Hands-on experience with cloud-based networking, firewall, security and data products is a plus.

• Skilled with using software repositories, CI/CD pipelines and writing test automation.

• Familiarity with large-scale, distributed performance testing, including Functional/Non-Functional Testing (NFT), is a plus.

• Use of automation, scripting and/or programming to solve problems and reduce effort.

• Well versed, working with SRE teams & technologies to assist safe, consistent technology operations.

• Ability to work effectively in a distributed, multi-cultural team, collaborating across time zones.
