Job Description:
Leonardo is one of the strategic industrial partners of the GCAP (Global Combat Air Programme), together with the British BAE Systems and the Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, aimed at the development and realization of a new generation air system, defined as a “system of systems”. Employed for multi-domain operations in the defense sector, the system will feature a “core platform” connected with other peripheral “adjuncts” systems, both manned and unmanned.
The program, one of the most challenging and futuristic for the aerospace and defense industry, will drive the technological revolution that will characterize the sector over the next fifty years. A challenge aimed at strengthening the technological and industrial sovereignty of the countries involved, because it aims to identify and make available those innovative technologies, known as enabling technologies, which will ensure the generational leap, generating positive returns and economic and social progress for the entire country system, benefiting new generations.

Within the Aircraft Division, in the Aircraft B.U., within the Avionic Systems unit, specifically in the Avionic Test System & Integration Methodologies discipline, we are looking for a Test Systems Designer to be included at the Turin plant for the Gcap program.
The resource, in order to contribute to the development, qualification and commissioning activities of the test systems supporting avionic integration and/or functional verification activities, both at the Industry's avionic laboratories and at the customer's, of apparatuses, sub-systems and avionic systems integrated on proprietary and consortium aircraft developed by Leonardo's Aircraft Division will mainly deal with:
receive, analyze and elicit test system requirements from test and system requirements, with structuring, management and traceability using requirement management tools;
define the architecture of the test system (system or subsystem integration Rig, HW/SW integration benches, AGE) ensuring consistency between system requirements, functions, interfaces and their implementation;
contribute to the development of the test system design, regarding functional logics, interfaces and operational flows;
contribute to the definition, analysis and allocation of non-functional requirements (reliability, maintainability, safety and security) of the test system, evaluating their impact on architecture, integration and verification strategies;
technically coordinate the design activities of the test system, understanding the design choices and supporting the alignment between the different disciplines;
supervise the realization of the test systems both at the supplier and at the internal laboratories;
define and execute test procedures for the verification and qualification of test systems and produce qualification evidence (e.g., test reports);
support the commissioning of test systems, also contributing to the drafting of manuals and acceptance procedures;
support the operation of test systems through analysis and troubleshooting activities;
research and contribute to the development of innovative solutions and new methodologies to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the work carried out.
Education:
Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering
Required experience level (junior, expert, senior, master)
Junior with at least 2 years of experience
Technical skills:
experience in the role of System Engineer and/or Test System Engineer in the avionic field;
understanding of the design of complex avionic systems (e.g., V-model) and the avionic product lifecycle;
proven ability to fully manage the test system lifecycle, from requirements definition to qualification and commissioning;
proven ability to define, draft and execute test, testing and qualification procedures;
excellent command of requirement management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS), regarding structuring, traceability and change management;
ability to automate document management processes using dedicated macros (e.g., DXL) and support scripting;
interpretation of technical diagrams and electrical/avionic schematics and understanding of design solutions relating to test systems;
knowledge of the main avionic communication buses (ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, AFDX, serial, etc.) and their electrical and logical management in automatic test systems;
knowledge of the physical characteristics of transmission media for analog/digital video signals and audio signals and their electrical and logical management in automatic test systems;
ability to elaborate and pursue innovative solutions compared to current equipment, methods and test documentation.
NICE TO HAVE:
knowledge of project engineering aspects;
knowledge of connectors, cables, avionic components and electrical protection devices of aeronautical type;
experience, even partial, in the detailed electrical/mechanical design for test systems.
