SPZ - Electro-Optical Sensor System Engineer (Electrical and Functional)

Within the Space Division, we are looking for an Electro-Optical Sensor System Engineer (Electrical and Functional) for our Campi Bisenzio (FI) office.

Within the EO Sensor System Engineering area, the person will be responsible for defining the electrical and functional architecture of space electro-optical payloads, managing their interfaces and supporting the internal design of electronic units. They will be responsible for defining and managing remote controls, telemetries and operational procedures for the instrument. They will supervise HW/SW integration, ensuring its validation and conducting functional system tests.

The person will be involved in the development of electro-optical instrumentation (spectrometers, radiometers, navigation cameras or attitude sensors) for remote sensing applications, both in the field of Earth observation and scientific exploration, for the main missions developed by national and international agencies, in a commercial or dual context.

The person will specifically deal with:

• Definition of the electrical and functional architecture of the electro-optical payload and management of interfaces between the various electronic units

• Definition of instrument management methods and procedures in collaboration with the satellite Prime

• Analysis and definition of Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) functionalities, verification of feasibility via HW and implementation via SW (for example using PUS services)

• Definition of remote controls and telemetries to ensure observability and commandability of the instrument during tests and operational life

• Definition of test procedures for verifying functional aspects and support for performance tests

• Preparation of specifications and procedures for functional tests, execution of tests and preparation of test reports

• Preparation and maintenance of the Flight Operation Manual, including the definition of flight operation procedures

• Support for HW and SW integration

• Contributions for updating technical budget reports and documentation of internal data interfaces (ICD and IRD)

• Support for the definition of EGSE and final acceptance

• Participation in technical reviews and teleconferences with customers and subcontractors (English language)

Educational Qualification:

• Master's Degree in STEM disciplines (Electronics, Telecommunications, Aerospace, Computer Science)

Required Experience Level:

• Expert: at least 3 years of experience in the role

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

• Experience in system engineering, possibly in the aerospace field or electro-optical instrumentation

• Ability to analyze and manage requirements, draft technical specifications

• Preparation of documentation: test and validation reports, specifications, test plans and procedures

• Familiarity with bus and communication protocols typical of the space sector (e.g. SpaceWire, CAN, UART, MIL-STD-1553)

• Experience in HW/SW integration and testing activities

• Knowledge of space development processes and standards (ECSS) is a plus
