Meta Careers is looking for a research scientist intern to join their Core Data Science team. The team is interdisciplinary, with expertise in computer science, statistics, machine learning, economics, political science, operations research, and sociology, among many other fields. The ideal candidate will have extensive graduate training in economics, computer science, optimization, or related disciplines, and an interest in answering challenging, open-ended research questions with real-world impact.

The intern will be responsible for answering important product and business questions, identifying new areas across the family of Meta apps and products where economic, statistical or algorithmic insights can drive product improvements, synthesizing and applying insights from the relevant academic literatures to Meta's products, and working both independently and collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, designers, UX researchers, and product managers to accomplish complex tasks that create value for Meta's community of over 2 billion users.

The internship is twelve (12) - twenty four (24) weeks long and has various start dates throughout the year. The minimum qualifications include currently having or being in the process of obtaining a PhD in Economics, Computer Science, Operations Research or related field, expertise in empirical research, including manipulating and analyzing complex data and communicating quantitative analyses, knowledge of a data analysis language such as R, and/or experience with data analysis in general-purpose programming languages such as Python, and interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration. The preferred qualifications include a proven track record of research excellence, as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, and publications in top journals, conference proceedings and workshops in the candidate's area of specialization, and intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

The job offer is available in Menlo Park, CA, Seattle, WA, New York, NY, and 2 other locations. The salary range listed in the job posting reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be commensurate with the candidate's final level and final location. Also, this range represents base salary only and does not include the company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity, or benefits, if applicable.
