Director, Controller
Overview:
The Director reports to the VP, Accounting – Controllership Integration and assists in establishing and maintaining a best-in-class controllership for strategically important and recently acquired Mastercard businesses. The Director is responsible for managing and overseeing activities associated with the integration. This role is key in ensuring that financial systems, controls and accounting practices are harmonized and aligned with company policies during the integration process. The Director must possess strong leadership skills to build and engage teams to optimize and transform the current structure while utilizing their technical skillset to establish and enhance processes and internal controls. A key part of the role is to be able to influence positive change through dialogue, partnership with finance and business partners, regional and business unit controllerships, and the GBSC (Global Business Service Center). The successful candidate will bring deep accounting expertise, strategic thinking, and project management skills to drive integration efforts efficiently.
Role:
Ensures integrity and accuracy of financials for acquisitions and has responsibility for ensuring compliance with policy and external and Corporate accounting requirements
Successfully partner with business unit finance partners and other finance functions with dependencies on controllership over the course of the integration
Manages accounting-related matters on business transactions and accounting, including but not limited to revenue recognition, software capitalization and impairment reviews
Critical role in finance integrations of new Product acquisitions; responsibilities include alignment to Mastercard’s finance policies and procedures, ensure appropriate revenue and expense recognition, liaise with acquisition and Mastercard finance team, coordination with Regional and Product Controllers, where appropriate
Influence change through strong, collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Business and Finance Executives, Peers, Products and Services business partners, Regional Controllers, and GBSC
Identify opportunities to implement automated solutions to streamline processes
Manages and executes alignment on Mastercard accounting policies and adheres to SOX as appropriate and identify key risks and exposures for process improvement
Supports monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc management reporting including executive presentations to senior business leaders
Perform periodic review of financial reporting processes to ensure operationally mitigating risks based on design and the evolution of business processes
Executes on the integration project timeline and deliverables, track progress and escalate risks or issues to leadership as needed
Executes on successful transition and provide ongoing support to business units to address integration-related financial questions or concerns
All About You: In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:
Certified Public Accountant or its equivalent
Strong general accounting knowledge including US GAAP, experience with acquisitions/managing integration activities a plus
Established credibility as a trusted advisor to business partners and senior leadership on complex matters
Self-starter who is comfortable problem solving and operating in ambiguity
Excellent project management skills with strong analytical and financial skills
Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Process-minded change agent with strong knowledge of internal controls, ability and experience to assess and design effective operational and financial controls, ensuring compliance within a diverse organization
Successfully drive and integrate change and cultivate a continuous improvement culture
Strong presentation and communication skills and poised influencer who uses analytical and leadership skills to achieve goals
Must be able to integrate knowledge across disciplines and demonstrate effective leadership with relationship development skills
Experience partnering with various work streams in process improvement initiatives along with developing procedures for implementation
Experience of regulated environments preferred
Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Demonstrated successful oversight of the management and resolution of high-risk issues to ensure completeness and efficiency
Proficient PC skills, especially Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Hyperion & Oracle a plus
Market and industry knowledge a strong plus

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Pay Ranges Purchase, New York: $163,000 - $269,000 USD
