Entry Level
Location: Alhambra, CA (Onsite)
The Test Operator 1 is responsible for performing tests on the III-V photonic wafer products, including DFB lasers, gain chips, and other InP-based devices, following wafer fabrication and shipping to over-sea OSATs. This entry-level role operates under close supervision, executing established test procedures to verify optical and electrical performance, sorting and binning devices per spec, and maintaining accurate test records. The Test Operator 1 supports on-time delivery of tested products while building foundational knowledge of photonic device characterization.
Device Testing & Equipment Operation
Operate test equipment under direct supervision, including:
Execute test procedures according to SOPs and test specifications
Load, handle, and unload devices with care to prevent damage
Ensure proper lot tracking and movement through MES/travelers
Data Recording & Quality Control
Record test results, pass/fail data, and equipment logs accurately
Sort and bin devices according to test specifications
Flag out-of-spec or abnormal results and escalate to Test Operator 2, Technician, or Engineering
Maintain basic awareness of test data trends
WIP Management & Documentation
Track device/lot status and ensure correct flow through the test process
Support cycle time targets and prioritize lot movement as directed
Maintain clean and organized test area
Support & Development
Assist with engineering on test station setups and qualification as directed
Follow all safety, ESD, and handling procedures for sensitive III-V devices
Participate in on-the-job training to build toward Test Operator 2 proficiency
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to follow detailed SOPs and test procedures under supervision
Basic understanding of electronic/optical measurement concepts (or willingness to learn)
Strong attention to detail and precision handling of fragile devices
Ability to accurately record and enter data
Ability to work in a cleanroom or ESD-controlled environment for extended periods
Ability to wear full cleanroom gown/ESD attire as required
Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a structured, process-driven environment
Prior experience in photonics manufacturing and cleanroom testing environment
Experience working with automatic test stations, devices burn-in stations, and test devices handling
Familiar with using microscope, optical spectrum analyzer, digital multi-meter, and laser controllers
Basic exposure to semiconductor, photonics, or optics concepts
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong sense of ownership and accountability

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $20-27/hr. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base salary, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education and experience, as well as job location and the value of other elements of an employee’s total compensation package.
