Agentic Engineer

Software development is changing. You probably don't need to be convinced of that. You see it every day. Work that used to take hours now sometimes takes only minutes. Not because developers are becoming less important, but because AI is increasingly thinking along, analyzing, writing code, testing, and improving. At Independer, we are already using this. We have AI solutions live for our customers. Our developers use AI tools daily during software development. But frankly, we feel we are only utilizing a small part of what is possible. What will you do as an Agentic Engineer? Not make PowerPoints about AI. But build software.

An Agentic Engineer is a software engineer who uses and builds AI agents to develop software faster, smarter, and more effectively. You don't see AI as a tool, but as an active partner in the development process.

You build software for millions of users. Sometimes these are improvements to the frontend and backend of Independer.nl. Sometimes they are customer-oriented AI solutions. Sometimes you develop tooling that helps other developers work faster.

You experiment with new technology, but always with a practical goal: to build something that is actually used.

In addition, you help us discover how software development is changing due to AI. Not from theory, but from practice. Because you experience daily what works, what doesn't, and where the biggest opportunities lie. The insights you gain can directly influence how we work as a development organization.

Specifically, you will work on:

• Building software for millions of users;

• Improving the frontend and backend of Independer.nl;

• Developing customer-oriented AI solutions;

• Building tooling that helps developers work faster;

• Experimenting with new technologies that are directly applicable in practice.

Team You certainly don't do this alone, but together with a group of pleasant and driven colleagues. Because you won't end up in a loose innovation club here. You work with experienced software engineers, architects, and IT management on real products that are used daily. You get a lot of freedom to try out new ideas. You get space to experiment. But you also just build software that goes into production. That's what makes this role different. What we are looking for We are looking for someone who is curious, enjoys building, and quickly masters new technology. You probably don't have ten years of experience. We don't expect that either. You probably recognize yourself in some of these points:

• You have a technical HBO or WO education;

• You have at least 3 years of work experience;

• You enjoy programming/prompting;

• You use AI daily during software development;

• You experiment with new tools and methods on your own.

• You prefer to build something rather than talk about it endlessly. You are curious about how software development is evolving.

• Ideally, you have already experimented with Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI, MCP, LangGraph, or similar tooling. Curiosity and a drive to build are more important to us than a list of technologies.
