It’s bad manners to talk about money. Unless you’re in Finance & Accounting or Controlling & Analysis—the two large teams comprising Finance at BCG. Not only do these professionals talk about money all the time, they also really have to know what they’re talking about, since they’re responsible for accounting, taxes, payroll, travel management, and time and billing at BCG. In addition to purely financial workflows, they also ensure that our consultants have the best possible basis for making decisions in our various respective markets.
As a Software Developer in our Finance department, you will design, develop, and test applications, integrations, and software components that support finance processes across the firm. You will advise our Finance functions on how best to map their business processes in their IT systems, and you will help to advance, optimize, maintain, and support Finance’s technology landscape.
You will own the software development lifecycle from design through deployment, building reliable, maintainable solutions that improve business processes and operational efficiency. Your responsibilities will include:
Designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining applications, integrations, and software components that support Finance systems
Partnering with Finance stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions
Writing, testing, and optimizing high-quality code while following established software engineering standards and best practices
Building and operating data pipelines and integrations that enable reliable, high-quality data processing across Finance applications
Modernizing legacy applications and components while ensuring business continuity and system stability
Running code builds for test and production environments, troubleshooting defects, and continuously improving application performance and reliability
Creating and maintaining technical documentation, solution designs, and support materials in accordance with company standards
Providing testing, documentation, and ongoing support for internally developed applications and third-party software products
Developing secure, scalable applications with experience in RESTful APIs, asynchronous communication patterns, DevSecOps practices, secrets management, code quality tools, and secure software development principles
You have a degree in computer science or any other natural science and/or equivalent professional experience developing non-client-facing enterprise software applications.
You have a passion to learn new technologies and self-discipline to challenge and go beyond simple implementation requirements.
You bring strong database expertise, including relational database management systems (ideally Microsoft SQL Server), advanced T-SQL, query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning in the OLAP field.
You are proficient in Python for backend development and scripting, have a solid understanding of object-oriented programming gained through Python, Java, or C++, and have experience building data pipelines with Apache Airflow.
You are comfortable maintaining and modernizing legacy VBScript and VBA applications. Experience with Go, TypeScript, and the Wails framework is a plus.
You have experience with modern software engineering practices, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, pre-commit hooks, and bash scripting.
You communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken. Hungarian language skills are an advantage.
You will be part of a small, international development team, working together closely with your colleagues in the other Finance and IT functions. Collaboration in the team is characterized by respect, acceptance, and mutual trust. Your manager and coworkers will support your onboarding and professional development, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues.
